National Family Law Conference – Day 1
Here we are on day 1 of the largest family law conference in Australia organised by the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. For the next three days all things family law will be discussed, disseminated and debated by some of the brightest minds in the field and over 940 delegates.
This morning we were meant to be addressed on the “State of the Nation” by The Chief Justice of the Family Court, the Chief Judge of the Federal Circuit Court, the Chair of the FLS and the Attorney-General, Christian Porter. The latter was late – he spoke to us later in the day. It’s fair to say he was not the favourite on the day, delivering his rhetoric to justify his push to merge the Federal Circuit Court and the Family Court of Australia. He did not take questions…
There were many very interesting and worthwhile speakers though on topics as diverse as psychopaths, arbitration, pornography, hourly billing, gender dysphoria and child support. Of course there’s the happy hour afterwards too!
